Romans 8
1 There is therefore G686 now G3568 no G3762 condemnation G2631 to them which are in Christ G5547 Jesus G2424, who walk G4043 not after G2596 the flesh G4561, but after G2596 the Spirit G4151.2 For the law G3551 of the Spirit G4151 of life G2222 in Christ G5547 Jesus G2424 hath made G1659 me free G1659 from the law G3551 of sin G266 and death G2288.3 For what G3588 the law G3551 could G102 not do, in that it was weak G770 through G1223 the flesh G4561, God G2316sending G3992 his own G1438 Son G5207 in the likeness G3667 of sinful G266 flesh G4561, and for sin G266, condemned G2632 sin G266 in the flesh G4561:
4 That the righteousness G1345 of the law G3551 might be fulfilled G4137 in us, who walk G4043 not after G2596 the flesh G4561, but after G2596 the Spirit G4151.5 For they that are after G2596 the flesh G4561 do mind G5426 the things of the flesh G4561; but they that are after G2596 the Spirit G4151 the things of the Spirit G4151.6 For to be carnally G4561 minded G5427 is death G2288; but to be spiritually G3588-G4151 minded G5427 is life G2222 and peace G1515.7 Because G1360 the carnal G4561 mind G5427 is enmity G2189 against G1519 God G2316: for it is not subject G5293 to the law G3551 of God G2316, neither G3761 indeed G1063 can G1410 be.
8 So then G1161 they that are in the flesh G4561 cannot G3756-G1410 please G700 God G2316.9 But ye are not in the flesh G4561, but in the Spirit G4151, if G1512 so be that the Spirit G4151 of God G2316 dwell G3611 in you. Now G1161 if G1487 any G5100 man have G2192 not the Spirit G4151 of Christ G5547, he is none G3756 of his.10 And if G1487 Christ G5547 be in you, the body G4983 is dead G3498 because G1223 of sin G266; but the Spirit G4151 is life G2222 because G1223 of righteousness G1343.11 But if G1437 the Spirit G4151 of him that raised G1453 up Jesus G2424 from the dead G3498 dwell G3611 in you,he that raised G1453 up Christ G5547 from the dead G3498 shall also G2532 quicken G2227 your G5216 mortal G2349 bodies G4983 by his Spirit G4151 that dwelleth G1774 in you.12Therefore G686-G3767, brethren G80, we are debtors G3781, not to the flesh G4561, to live G2198 after G2596 the flesh G4561.13 For if G1437 ye live G2198 after G2596 the flesh G4561, ye shall die G599: but if G1487 ye through the Spirit G4151 do mortify G2289 the deeds G4234 of the body G4983, ye shall live G2198.14 For as many G3745 as are led G71 by the Spirit G4151 of God G2316, they are the sons G5207 of God G2316.15 For ye have G2192 not received G2983 thespirit G4151 of bondage G1397 again G3825 to fear G5401; but ye have received G2983 the Spirit G4151 of adoption G5206, whereby G1722-G3739 we cry G2896, Abba G5, ather G3962.16 The Spirit G4151 itself G846 beareth G4828 witness G4828 with our spirit G4151, that we are the children G5043 of God G2316:
17 And if G1487 children G5043, then G2532 heirs G2818; heirs G2818 ofGod G2316, and joint-heirs G4789 with Christ G5547; if G1512 so be that we suffer G4841 with him, that we may be also G2532 glorified G4888 together G4888.18 For I reckon G3049 that the sufferings G3804 of this G3588 presentG3568 timeG2540 are not worthyG514 to be compared with the glory G1391 which shall be revealed G601 in us.
19 For the earnest G603 expectation G603 of the creature G2937 waiteth G553 for the manifestation G602 of the sons G5207 of God G2316.20 For the creature G2937 was made G5293 subject G5293 to vanity G3153, not willingly G1635, but by reason G1223 of him who hath subjected G5293 the same in hopeG1680,21 Because G3754 the creature G2937 itself G846 also G2532 shall be delivered G1659 from the bondage G1397 of corruption G5356 into G1519 the glorious G1391 liberty G1657 of the children G5043 of God G2316.22 For we know G1492 that the whole G3956 creation G2937 groaneth G4959 and travaileth G4944 in pain together G4944 until G891 now G3568.23 And not only G3440 they, but ourselves also G2532, which have G2192 thefirstfruits G536 of the Spirit G4151, even G2532 we ourselves groan G4727 within G1722ourselves G1438, waiting G553 for the adoption G5206, to wit, the redemption G629 of our body G4983.24 For we are saved G4982 by hope G1680: but hope G1680 that is seen G991 is not hope G1680: for what a man G5100 seeth G991, why G5101 doth he yet hope G1679 for?
25 But if G1487 we hope G1679 for that we see G991 not, then do we with patience G5281 wait G553 for it.
26 Likewise G5615 the Spirit G4151 also G2532 helpeth G4878 our infirmities G769: for we know G1492 not what G5101 we should pray G4336 for as we ought G1163: but the Spirit G4151 itself G846 maketh G5241 intercession G5241 for us with groanings G4726 which cannot G215 be uttered G215.27 And he that searcheth G2045 the hearts G2588 knoweth G1492 what G5101 is the mind G5427 of the Spirit G4151, because G3754 he maketh G1793 intercession G1793 for the saints G40 according G2596 to the will of God G2316.28 And we know G1492 that all G3956 things work G4903 together G4903 for good G18 to them that love G25 God G2316, to them who are the called G2822 according G2596 to his purpose G4286.29 For whom G3739 he did foreknow G4267, he also G2532 did predestinate G4309 to be conformed G4832 to theimage G1504 of his Son G5207, that he might be the firstborn G4416 among G1722 many G4183 brethren G80.30 Moreover G1161 whom G3739 he did predestinate G4309, them he also G2532 called G2564: and whom G3739 he called G2564, them he also G2532 justified G1344: and whom G3739 he justified G1344, them he also G2532 glorified G1392.31 What G5101 shall we then G3767 say G2046 to these G5023 things? If G1487 God G2316 be for us, who G5101 can beagainst G2596 us?
32 He that spared G5339 not his own G2398 Son G5207, but delivered G3860 him up for us all G3956, how G4459 shall he not with him also G2532 freely give G5483 us all G3956 things?
33 Who G5101 shall lay G1458 any thing to the charge G1458-G2596 of God’s G2316 elect G1588? It is God G2316 that justifieth G1344.
34 Who G5101 is he that ondemneth G2632? It is Christ G5547 that died G599, yea G1161 rather G3123, that is risen G1453again G1453, who G3739 is even G2532 at G1722 the right G1188 hand of God G2316, who G3739also G2532 maketh G1793 intercession G1793 for us.
35 Who G5101 shall separate G5562 us from the love G26 of Christ G5547? shall tribulation G2347, or G2228 distress G4730, or G2228 persecution G1375, or G2228 famine G3042, or G2228 nakedness G1132, or G2228 peril G2794, or G2228sword G3162?
36 As it is written G1125, For thy sake G1752 we are killed G2289 all G3650 the day G2250 long; we are accounted G3049 as sheep G4263 for the slaughter G4967.37 Nay G235, in all G3956 these G5125 things we are more G5245 than G5245 conquerors G5245 through G1223him that loved G25 us. 38 For I am persuaded G3982, that neither G3777 death G2288, nor G3777life G2222, nor G3777 angels G32, nor G3777 principalities G746, nor G3777 powers G1411, nor G3777 things present G1764, nor G3777 things to come G3195,39 NorG3777 height G5313, nor G3777 depthG899, nor G3777 any G5100 other G2087 creature G2937, shall be able G1410 to separate G5562 us from the love G26 of God G2316, which G3588 is in Christ G5547 Jesus G2424our Lord G2962

Romans 8
1 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.
2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.
3 For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh,
4 that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.
5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.
6 For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be.
8 So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.
9 But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.
10 And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.
12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors--not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh.
13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.
14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.
15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, "Abba, Father."
16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,
17 and if children, then heirs--heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.
18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
19 For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God.
20 For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in hope;
21 because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.
22 For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now.
23 Not only that, but we also who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting for the adoption, the redemption of our body.
24 For we were saved in this hope, but hope that is seen is not hope; for why does one still hope for what he sees?
25 But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it with perseverance.
26 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
27 Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
29 For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.
30 Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified.
31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?
32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?
33 Who shall bring a charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies.
34 Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.
35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
36 As it is written: "For Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter."
37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.
38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come,
39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Like the word “sin” (HAMARTIA), the same Greek word for “law” (NOMOS) is used many times in Romans.
Strong’s Concordance defines “law” (NOMOS) as 1. To parcel out, 2. Regulation (of Moses and of the Gospel), and 3. A principle.
Understanding the different ways NOMOS is used in Romans 8 will help you understand this chapter.
Therefore, your assignment is to use Coffman Commentary and The Gospel Advocate Series Commentary on Romans to learn how the word “law” is used in each verse.

20 For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in hope;
